LIFT INSTRUCT: Real Safety Training & Instruction.

Course Criteria:

This course is designed for lift truck operators who may or may not have previous operating experience. The duration of the course can vary, depending on the candidates operating experience.

Course Contents:

Theoretical Job Safety Knowledge:

Ø  Aims & Objectives.
Ø  Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
Ø  Company Codes of Practice & SWP’s
Ø  LOLER.
Ø  PUWER.
Ø  ACOP.
Ø  Principles of Counter Balance. ( Counter Balance trucks Only, Reach Trucks very Briefly)
Ø  Identify, Describe and explain component parts of the lift truck.
Ø  Understand Stability & Instability.
Ø  Rated Capacity & Capacity Plate, including weight assessment.
Ø  Understand the need to carry out pre-shift safety checks and to record and report faults, and carry out as part of the test.
Ø  Safely locate and understand all of the controls of the machine.
Ø  Understand the safety features & Devices of the machine.
Ø  Identify safe operating conditions and hazards in the work environment.
Ø  Understand machine tip over procedure.
Ø  Battery Charging/Refuelling procedure and safety.
Ø  G O B: Gear, Observation Brake.
Ø  Bulk Stacking.
Ø  Stacking Post Pallets.
Ø  Types of Pallets.
Ø  Loading/Unloading Lorries.
Ø  Theoretical Test.

Practical Training & Test:

Ø Practical Training will vary depending on the experience of the operator, generally speaking, an experienced operator will require either 1 day safety refresher, 2 day conversions or 3 day non certificated.  Whereas a Novice/inexperienced operator will need 3 - 5 days to complete the required standard.

Ø  Operate & Transport a load in a confined area. Namely a chicane.
Ø  Stack & de-stack at varying Heights.
Ø  Carry out Bulk Stacking.
Ø  Other manoeuvres or conditions at the customer’s request.
Ø  Practical Test.

AIMS:

To refresh existing operators of the need for the safe operation of the machine, and to train new operators how to operate the equipment safely, effectively and skillfully. 

Objectives:

On completing the training, lift truck operators should have gained knowledge of their legal and safety duties in relation to the lift truck. And also, use the lift truck safely and in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines and accepted good practice.  

Course Design:

The course is designed in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act and the Approved Codes Of Practice for Operators.
